Chapter 2

If the Shoes Fit...

Oh, how the shoes sparkled with jeweled trimmed bow

and glistening ruby heels.  Angelica couldn't wait to try them on.  Carefully she put her foot into the right shoe.  It fit!  Then she tried the left shoe!  They both fit!  She had never worn heels this high before, and the height made her feel quite regal as she practiced walking in them.  They were very comfortable and made her toes tingle.  After a few wobbles, and several practice trips back and forth across her room, she was good to go, the wobbles stopped and she gained her balance.

She caught her reflection in the mirror.  Dressed only in her pajamas she looked a little silly wearing these magnificent shoes.  Angelica opened her closet and started to search for the perfect outfit -- but nothing seemed quite right.  After all, what really goes with magic shoes? With a little bit of mixing and matching she settled on an interesting combination.

Starting from the bottom up, she first put on her favorite jeans followed by an unusual black tee shirt featuring a pair of silver angel wings on the front. She grabbed her purple Moto jacket and reached for her lavender backpack.

Remembering the warning on the map, she filled it with some helpful items in preparation for the journey. She tucked the note into her pocket for safekeeping and topped it all off with a red hat, before fastening the heart pin she found with the shoes to her lapel. With her cross body purse in hand. She took one last glance in the mirror, and smiled feeling pleased with the how she looked she took a step back and was ready to go.

After taking a deep breath, she clicked the heels of the ruby shoes together three times and said "Take me to Oz."  Before she knew what was happening, the shoes gently lifted her up in the air and her room began to spin. Slowly at first, but as it picked up more speed, all the colors in the room began to blur before separating into rows of spinning colors. Faster and faster the rings moved, as the colors formed a continuous stream of rainbow stripes that spun all around her. She felt very safe and wasn't dizzy at all.  She could feel her body moving slowly down the circling bands. When she reached the bottom, in about a minute’s time, the spinning slowly stopped and the colors separated into a variety of colored shapes.

She felt a flutter of excitement as she caught her breath. So

this is what the note meant by “Spin to Begin,” she thought to herself.  She could see that she was no longer in her bedroom!  Once the whirlwind of colored shapes transformed and came into focus Angelica found herself standing in the center of an amazingly beautiful room.

But who's bedroom was this?  As she began to take in all the details of the room, she found herself turing in a complete circle to see it all, because the room itself was round!

You're Invited toSolve the Mystery

The Mystery of the Ruby Slippers started out as the spark of an idea, a simple thought that grew out of frustration as I sat in my car stuck in traffic one morning on my way to work.  If only I had the Ruby Slippers, I could just click three times and instantly get anywhere I wanted to go.

At the time I was the owner and CCO, (Chief Creative Officer) of Ruby Shoes Studio, with 18 years of experience and success creating dazzling images, powerful messages and imaginative products for a wide variety of regional and national clients.  So, as I continued on my way, I found myself immersed in a barrage of ideas and thoughts around what I would do if somehow, I did fine myself in possession of Dorothy's Magic Slippers.

Fast-forward 15 years...

After adopting my beautiful daughter Angelica all my ideas around possessing the Ruby Slippers began to slowly comeback to me.  When at age 10 she fell victim to an horrific case of bullying, I decided to update my original plan and create an interactive web site as a way to empower and help my daughter and other girls who may have fallen prey to the current bullying epidemic . The methods used are limited only by the child's imagination and access to technology. And the cyber bully one moment may become the victim the next. The kids often change roles, going from victim to bully and back again.  Learn more
